During the Presidential Inauguration a very lovely pastor said some lovely words of mercy and compassion.
Were they received with the intention they were given by Dumpster? (You know who I’m talking about). No! Dumpster actually thought those words to be very rude, and I can’t believe I’m using a direct quote from Dumpster, but he wrote “She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart”.
I’m going to make the general assumption that if you’re reading me you will agree that nothing baneful was intended with the pastor’s speech. Nothing the pastor said would be classified as a hex. Except that it was classified as such, by the twisted mind of the receiver.
We can even talk about Luigi for a second. No, he didn’t follow the law, but then again, neither were the people protecting Anne Frank. He’s viewed as a hero to many, and in true to the law of polarity, when you create one thing you create the opposite, so he’s also seen as a villain by some.
What I mean is that hex is more in the eye of the beholder than it is this “cause harm at all costs” mentality many people have.
Can you imagine someone does a fertility spell on you when you don’t want kids? Or they did a spell for you to get a job and you end up in an awful dead-end job?
The intentions have a lovely sentiment, but they aren’t exactly what the receiver is looking for.
Those spells could even be classified as karma-influncers.
Karma is a bitch, ain’t it?
People’s number one argument against hexes is “what about messing with karma? What you do comes back to you!”. Yes, yes it does, and so does everything else.
Karma, especially in the west, seems to be this concept of “something bad is happening to me. Must be because I did something bad”. We also fall for “If I fell, it must because I wished for the fall of someone”. It seems to be very tit-for-tat, like a cosmic game of tennis with this ball of negative thoughts being thrown back and forth.
Also, in Western mentality, Karma seems to become Christianized. If you do this you will be punished by God (sounds a lot like the concept of hell, but on earth). It also creates too many excuses for inequality. “Oh that person is homeless and on drugs, they must have done something to deserve what they got” further creating the separation of social hierarchy.
I don’t know, man, I always thought that Karma and the cycle of life was circular, all parts equal, and not like a ladder.
The 3 Principles
When people talk about Karma, they also seem to forget (or be ignorant to) the fact that Karma has two other brothers.
Karma - balance and equilibrium
Dharma - truth, justice, and duty
Atman - soul
We talked about karma, now let’s talk about Dharma. Dharma is duty.
In legends of old, kings had their trusty knights who served at their command. You want someone killed, the knight would do it. Is that knight building negative karma? Or are they following their duty?
By today’s standards I would say they are building negative karma. I don’t believe in killing, not even the death penalty. But that’s my perspective. I know survivors of abuse who think very differently then me. Are they building negative karma because they wish death on someone who caused incredible harm? That’s why I said in my Hex Positive: Part 1 that the decision is entirely up to you and your soul.
Leading us to Atman, the soul. Hexing is not something to be take lightly. Hel, even sending someone goods vibes should not be taken lightly.
Have you ever suffered from depression? Let me tell you that when someone is in that state of mind, a smile feels like a threat. A good wish feels fake and insincere. Positivity feels like a mockery. So no, not everyone wants good vibes, at least not for a while.
Protection is not on the offensive.
When I first heard about energy protection I didn’t understand it. I was like, “am I in danger? Should I be scared? From what?”, I felt confused and even afraid to step further into my spirituality.
I believe I have cracked the code.
Protection is not so much about putting on an armor and picking a sword and being on the offensive all the time. Thats for when you’re doing a hex or feel actual threat.
Protection is more about building this energetic safe space. My bedroom is my safe space. I can close the door, my altar is in the room, I can journal, reflect, pull cards, meditate, get in touch with myself and practice in peace, with no one else’s energy, voice, or noise disturbing me.
Protection is that safe space but energetically around you when you’re surrounded by the noise of the world.
It creates this barrier between your energy and other people’s. It keeps you “side of the street” clean and only yours, so you don’t get confused and pick up other people’s energies.
There are many levels to the talk of protection.
Energetic barriers
Wards
Defensive barries
Invisibility shields

And probably more than I can think of.
It’s a vast topic, and one that should be studied in plenty before you attempt any hexing.
Black and White
As you can see, the topic of hexing is not that black and white. You never know how someone will receive a gift, regardless of your intention, and you never know how it will be reciprocated.
It is my perspective that I have a duty to myself and my community. I know I’m not a frontline kind of witch, and it’s not about changing the world.
But I believe I can change as far as my arms can reach, and I’m 6ft (183cm) so that’s a wide wingspan. I can reach within my community, I can write that change is possible, I can transmit encouraging words.
And always take what you read, learn, see, especially in the realm of spirituality and let it filter through your own Self. Do you feel challenged? In what way? Do you feel encouraged? To do what? What is the trigger? And what is the next step?
And with those questions, I send you much love and tarot magic,

For when you’re feeling a bit spicy to hex the system, you can look for any of these three cards. Justice, Chariot, and Hierophant (or Pope, High Priest).
Justice for obvious reasons. You can ask how you can bring justice and balance to your Self, your nervous system, and your community. Or even how can you bring down the sword of justice on those who wronged you.
Chariot is about moving forward, The two horse can represent being pulled in different directions, so how can you find a focus or a compromise to find your footing and your next step?
Hierophant can represent oppressive religious dogma and/or the patriarchy. You can see in what ways you are supporting the patriarchy (and we all are in some way, so don’t feel guilty), and in what ways can you help dismantle it?
Those are some suggestions. Feel free to use others cards and other prompts that you can think of that are more appropriate for what you’re doing.
